Bickley has large and expensive houses on roads such as Oldfield Road, Southborough Road, Page Heath Lane and Blackbrook Lane. Bickley Park contains a range of large houses, making it one of the most expensive areas within the Capital to live, it is the area between Chislehurst Road and Bickley Park Road extending to the railway at Chislehurst station. This area was the estate of Bickley Hall, a classical house designed by Robert Mylne, FRS, for John Wells, shipbuilder, in 1780 (demolished 1963). His brother William (see Oxford DNB), shipbuilder and a director of Greenwich Hospital, inherited the estate, and his son John commissioned additions by Robert Smirke in 1810. Residential development started in the 1860s and was completed in the 1960s.
The station was opened by the London, Chatham and Dover Railway (LCDR), on the Chatham Main Line, firstly from the West (London bound) from Bromley on 7 July 1858; and then, on 3 December 1860, the line from the east, completing the link between Victoria and Faversham, and later, in 1861, to Dover and Ramsgate. To the east of the station are what are known as the Bickley Loops which connect the "Chatham Main Line" with the South Eastern Main Line (of the ex South Eastern Railway, constructed in 1902 by the newly unified South Eastern and Chatham Railway.
The station lies on the four-track main line, Fast and Slow lines paired; crossovers allow trains to use the Bickley Loops. There are two island platforms, with stairs leading up to the station buildings at the country end of the station, located on Southborough Road.
Bickley railway station is the main station serving the affluent area of Bickley that is in the London Borough of Bromley in south London. It lies between Bromley South and Swanley stations. The station is managed by Southeastern, and served by Southeastern and First Capital Connect, and is in Travelcard Zone 5.
