Geocache Description:

Really SideTracked is intended to join the growing list of SideTracked caches celebrating former stations which are, for whatever reason, no longer with us. Cache is hidden at the former railway station, Parking available Station Road. If you have more time head along the old train line to Craighead Viaduct and enjoy the view from this point, But unfortunately without sky hooks my other cache 'viaduct' is so near, but so far.... @Well Done Sweeney T's On Yet Another F.T.F@

Line opened 1 April 1877, closed 1 January 1917, re-opened 2 June 1919, closed 2 July 1955. This was a two platform station, with a junction immediately to the north. The station had a sandstone building and signalbox. The signalbox was operated by a travelling signalman. Part of one of the platforms remain Today For The Trained Eye To Notice. Just to the west of the station was the Bothwell Castle Colliery Pits No 1 and 2. This colliery closed in 1949. The station became the terminus of the line in 1952 due to undermining of the Craighead viaduct just to the south of the station. Hope everyone Enjoys. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=dZBeuvi2jWQ
