This year, 2014 is the centenary of the start of the First World War, a good time to create a series dedicated to War Memorials. There is an un-numbered series in Scotland called Lest we forget.
Just-us-Two have chosen the name of this series ~
We Shall remember them
, which is just a line from the poem
“For the Fallen” by Laurence Binyon.
It is well worth searching out and reading
Until July 2014 Selston previously had just a plaque inside a church to mark its fallen servicemen but many of the names were missing.
It was unveiled a week ahead of national events to mark the centenary of World War One.
The new memorial bears the more than 80 names of local servicemen who died in the two world wars
The Portland stone obelisk has six sides at its base, with the names of the fallen being carved in grey granite.
The War Memorial Series is a series first created by
Just-Us-Two
