O Rio Coura
O Rio Coura nasce na Serra do Corno de Bico, na freguesia de Bico, concelho de Paredes de Coura, a nordeste da vila que dá nome ao concelho. Antes de chegarem a esta cache as águas deste curto rio percorrem cerca de 50Km passando pelos concelhos de Paredes de Coura, Vila Nova de Cerveira e Caminha, drenando uma área de cerca de 265 Km2. Desagua neste último concelho, bem no centro da vila, a escassos quilómetros do oceano, sendo o último afluente do Rio Minho antes de ele desaguar.
O nome deste rio foi mudando ao longo dos tempos tendo sido chamado de Benis, na era antes de Cristo, sendo rebaptizado a partir do Séc I d.C. de Froilano. Foi só depois, numa época indeterminado que se passou a chamar Coura.
Este rio traz também alguma história com ele, tendo sido a fonte de energia de um dos primeiros projectos hidroeléctricos do país, em 1910, depois da construção de uma pequena central hidroeléctrica na freguesia de Covas – V.N. de Cerveira – que trouxe electricidade para esta região.
Falta falar nas mais conhecidas praias fluviais deste rio, em Vilar de Mouros e Paredes de Coura que anualmente se enchem de banhistas aquando da realização dos festivais de música mais antigos do país, o Festival de Vilar de Mouros e o festival de Paredes de Coura.
Ao chegar ao Rio Minho cria um pequeno estuário que forma uma área de terras alagadas que constituem uma área protegida por se tratar de uma reserva ambiental de aves.

The Coura River
The Coura River rises in the Serra do Corno de Bico, in the parish of Bico, municipality of Paredes de Coura, northeast of the village which gives its name to the county. Before reaching this cache the waters of this river run short about 50km passing through the counties of Paredes de Coura, Cerveira and Caminha, draining an area of about 265 km2. It flows to the River Minho on the Caminha county, right by the town center, a few kilometers from the ocean. The Coura River is the last tributary of the River Minho before it flows to the sea.
The name of this river changed over time, having been called Benis, in the era before Christ, being renamed in the first Century a.C as Froilano. It was only later, in an unspecified time that became known as Coura.
This river also has some history itself, having been the source of energy from one of the first hydroelectric projects in the country, in 1910 after the construction of a small hydroelectric power station in the village of Covas – V.N. Cerveira County - that brought electricity to this region.
This river has also some popular river beaches, in Vilar de Mouros and Paredes de Coura that annually fills with bathers while the oldest music festivals in Portugal occur, the Festival of Vilar de Mouros and the Festival of Paredes de Coura.
Arriving in the Minho River it creates a small estuary that forms an area of wetlands which is protected because it’s an environmental reserve area for birds.
