Geocache Description:

The Crooked Fork of the Emory River has some great waterfalls on it, and makes for a wonderful summer hang out. However, who wants to hang out at this beautiful location when there is trash strewn all over. A little clean up is just what the area needs. We will meet at the small parking area next to Potters Falls at 10 AM. Groups can clean up trash around Potters Falls, and along the river as far as LaMance Falls.

After visiting both Potter Falls Earthcache and Lamance Falls and Monolith, I was struck by two things:

  1. These are beautiful falls with great potential for picnicing, frolicking in the water, and enjoying the outdoors.
  2. There sure is a lot of trash here.

I vowed then to return, with trash bags and gloves and do my best to improve the area. And maybe... just maybe, others would want to join me in cleaning up this area, and enjoying a summer splash. What better way to invite fellow geocachers out here than a summer CITO. The general plan is to meet by Potter Falls at 10 AM and divide up into two groups; one for those who enjoy rough country hiking and one for those wanting to stay close to the cars.

The first group will clean up trash between the parking area and LaMance falls by hiking up the river. It is currently running pretty low and is easily cross-able in many places. Ideally we would have folks on both sides of the river to pick up as much trash as possible. This group should be prepared for rough hiking, bushwhacking, and carrying trash for up to a mile.

The second group will concentrate on Potter Falls, both the Upper and Lower areas. This area sees heavy use and it shouldn't be hard to fill several trash-bags. There are good walking paths and you will not have to travel far from the cars.

We'll be shooting to meet back at the cars at 1 PM for group photos, picnic by the waterfalls and maybe even a little swim.

What I will bring

  • trash-bags
  • a few pairs of gloves
  • bug spray
  • swimwear and towel for afterwards

What you should bring

  • your own gloves if possible
  • good tick and poison ivy protection
  • sturdy hiking wear and possibly a backpack of some sort if you intend on being in the first group.
  • picnic stuff and swimwear for afterwards

If you can bring a pickup truck, please do. Otherwise we may have trouble hauling off our garbage collection. Please state in your attend note that you will be bringing a truck so we have an idea of how many to expect.

I'm looking forward to cleaning up this beautiful area with all of you.

NOTE: There are two geocaches here, an Earthcache at Potter Falls, and a Traditional at LaMance Falls
