Geocache Description:

A cache placed to mark the site of Impington Hall.

Impington Hall was once home to the Pepys family. John Pepys, great-grandfather of Samuel Pepys, built the red-brick mansion in 1579 and it remained in the Pepys family until 1805.

The Hall stood in a park of 34 hectares to the south of St Andrews church. The grounds were developed and at one point featured ornamental lakes, canals and avenues.

For a time the hall was owned by Talbot Pepys. He was the uncle of Samuel Pepys, who recorded at least four visits to the hall in his diaries.

After a succession of other owners, the property passed into the hands of Chivers & Sons, who owned the fruit processing and jam factory in nearby Histon. The parkland was given by Chivers for the building of Impington Village College but the hall became vacant and was unfortunately destroyed by fire. It was demolished in 1953 and the land later developed for the housing that is now Percheron Close.

The small cache is placed close to the wall plaque. It should be accessible to everyone.

Congratulations to Violets are blue on the FTF.
