To celebrate the summer and the warm nights I will be hosting a night caching safety and introduction course in Sleepy Creek and invite you to come out and join me. We will be camping at the posted coordinates that night though spending the night is not required for the event but you are welcome to camp with us. The camping sites are primitive with no running water and pit toilets only so if you are camping come prepaired. Camping is on a first come first served basis with an "iron ranger" to pay your $5 per night camping fee on the way in. If you are just comming for the event and not spending the night there is no entry fee to the area.
I will be demonstrating some of the common types of night caching trails you may find as well as showing the difference between various light options and addressing the safety conciderations that come with caching in the dark as opposed to bright daylight.
I encourage you to bring your flashlights, UV lights and a sense of adventure as we delve into the woods. We will give you a chance to try out what you have and compair it to other lights and see how it will work in the field. We will be trying things out in the woods around the event location on some temporary example night caches.
Please be aware that there is very limited to no cellular phone service in the area so you should not rely on your phone for navigating to the location. Either a dedicated GPS with loaded maps or printed directions would be the safer option. We will also be 20-30 minutes from any facilites so bring water, snacks or anything you may need in with you and practice cache in trash out and take all your trash with you.
