Geocache Description:

St John the Baptist. Feckenham

The church is normally Open, when I visited at 8:30am the colours inside were fantastic with the sun streaming through the East side stained glass which complimented the colours of the kneelers, has to be seen.

It is believed that the present building has its origins in 12th century but there was probably an earlier Anglo-Saxon or even Celtic church.

The oldest part of The Tower dates back to the 13th century but was reconstructed in the 15th century. It houses a ring of eight bells the oldest being from 1640. The Porch was built when the south wall and the nave were reconstructed in 1867. The massive chest was made by hollowing out a solid trunk of oak about eight feet long. The lid is in two parts and there are four locks in all. It would have been used to keep the records and valuables of the parish, the keys being kept by the Vicar and Churchwardens, all of whom would have to be present in order to open it.
