Lake Dardanelle State Park is providing an opportunity on National River Clean-up Day for people (including geocachers!) to come together to make a big impact. This CITO event is for geocachers to work with other volunteers and participate in the Fourth Annual Arkansas River Clean-up Day on July 5th. The event starts at 8 AM and cleanup activities will be performed until approximately 10:30 AM. A luncheon will be provided by the Park to the volunteers who help in this clean-up at 11 AM at the Visitor Center, and the event will conclude at Noon.
Lake Dardanelle State Park not only offers many outdoor recreation opportunities, but it also offers a safe home to much wildlife. The amount of trash and debris collected and removed on this day will improve the health of wildlife, people, and the habitat of our local waterways year round.
When: Saturday, July 5, 2014, 8 AM to 10:30 AM (cleanup activities), 11 AM to Noon (lunch and socializing)
Where: Registration begins at 8 AM at the Lake Dardanelle State Park Visitor Center. Stop there to register with both the park and sign the CITO event log, and to get your clean-up area assignment and trash bags.
What to bring: Bring your own work gloves and trash pick-up tools, if desired. Water will be provided, but it is always a good idea to bring your own! Bring your lawn chairs for lunch. Also, bring any trackables you want to share with other geocachers. And, as always, bring your geocaching stories!
Pre-registration: A limited number of kayaks are being provided by the Park, free of charge, for use during the clean-up. The Park will also provide life vests and paddles. The kayaks must be reserved ahead of time. To pre-register and reserve a kayak in your name, contact Elizabeth Drake, Park Interpreter, at 479-890-7479.
Volunteer Meal: All volunteers are invited for a delicious donated meal after the event, starting at 11 AM. Geocachers will gather during this time to visit with one another, swap stories, trade trackables, etc.
