Boca da Valéria is a little, aboriginal Indian village where the river "Rio da Valeria" meets the Amazon. Some cruise ships stop there to show the passengers how the local indians live. The about 75 - 100 residents are called "Cabolos" which means "people from the river". They live in pile houses, as the level of the Amazon may rise very quickly some meters during the rain season. Ships anchor outside of Boca da Valeria on the Amazon and tender into the river mouth.
When a cruise ship arrives, the residents dress up their children to make the tourists take photos and pay them. The children that are not dressed up are assigned to passengers as escorts holding their hands as they walk around the village.
