Geocache Description:

IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON DOING THIS SERIES BEFORE 15 MAY PLEASE CONTACT THE CO. (Scott)

The yin-yang series has 72 caches and is over 9 miles in length.  It's HOT up here, be prepared for desert caching.

☯Thanks for visiting the yin-yang series in Las Vegas NV.☯

First, yin-yang is not about opposites... dark or light, weak or strong, woman or man... Sure you can think of day as the opposite of night, but you can also think of day as the compliment of night.  For without the light of day, how could you describe the dark of night?  Without a woman, of what purpose is a man?  And isn't "weakness" just a different degree or measurement of strength?

I like to think of yin-yang as complimentary opposites.  It's not dark or light, it's dark and light, it's not woman or man, it's woman and man. You don't want one without the other... you don't need one without the other... and you can't have one without the other.

So anyway... this series is WALKING ONLY!  Do not attempt to drive to any of these caches, you can't.  This series borders Las Vegas Paiute tribal property, which is closed to trespassing.  The dirt road along the power lines is public access, but do not cross, park, or trespass on tribal land.

Access
So you can see on Google maps a couple of roads in the area. The only really good/easy way to get up here is go to Kyle Canyon road and go south, and take the first right (see additional waypoints, Turn 1). That road follows the freeway and then turns into a dirt road. Continue along that dirt road to Turn 2, which is the powerline road. From there let your geo-senses guide you.

Until further notice please DO NOT drive on or park along the power line road. You can only park off of Kyle Canyon road at the end of Cabin Way, or Lucky Strike Rd.

You can do this whole geoart in one big go, if you're strong enough... it's over 9 almost 11 miles but it's pretty easy walking.  It's just the heat for 5 months of the year that will get you.  If you want to split it into 2 days, the outer circle is 6+ miles and the divider line plus the yin and the yang circles are 7+ miles, depending upon where you park.

Parking
Speaking of parking, the road into and along this geoart is a power-line road.  The poles are numbered, and poles #12 and #13 have the best parking (near yy-08).  Both also have streams nearby which you can drive up a short ways (or a long ways!) and park.  DO NOT park on the north, or Paiute tribal property side of the road!  Do not walk or trespass on Paiute tribal property.

Until further notice please DO NOT drive on or park along the power line road. You can only park off of Kyle Canyon road at the end of Cabin Way, or Lucky Strike Rd.

Other than all that, the walking is easy with no deep gulleys to cross, and no steep hills to climb.  Bring plenty of water, even in the cooler months.  When I'm out, a bottle an hour is a pretty good guide.  If you plan to do the whole thing in one day, that means at least half a gallon of water.  It's not that big of a circle, if you find yourself halfway around, and the temperature is soaring and you're getting uncomfortable, just cut straight back to the powerline road which you never lose sight of, and call it a day.

Caches
Almost all of the caches are the same... once you find one or two you'll know what to look for during the next 5 or 6 hours. :)
yy-50 and yy-01 are the only different caches, they're big enough for small and medium sized TB's... in fact for the FTF there is a brand new, non-activated Dog Tag Travel Bug in yy-50.

Just my opinion...
I would ask that if you log finds on all 72 of these caches, that you've actually found all 72 of these caches. Going out in a group is cool, it can be lots of fun, but if your group of 10 heads out in 10 different directions and finds 7 caches each... then only log the 7 you actually found.

And finally, Please, Please, Please... stay safe... and cache on.

UPDATES

9/28/2014: I went out and replaced a missing container today and while out I walked past and checked on 16 of these caches. Imagine my surprise (and chagrin!) to note that about half of them were 12-15' off today, according to my GPSr!!?!!
SO... if you don't spot the cache container easily, just move about 12' N/NE and look down. :-)

2/27/2015: If a cache is missing feel free to throw down a spare and log it. But please please let me know, and I'll make my way out here and check on it.

3/7/2015: yy-01 is now a bigger container and can hold most normal travel bugs. Thanks everyone for the great logs and positive words! Keep 'em coming.

11/13/2015: Due to rains this fall, the road is much rougher than it used to be. 4wd is NOT required, but you might rethink your small sedan. I definitely recommend something with a little ground clearance like a truck or SUV.
