Geocache Description:

PROUD MEMBER OF GEOCACHINGMAINE.ORG

At 11:00 am on July 31st, I'll be giving a presentation on geocaching as part of the Summer Reading Program for the Children's Room at the Bangor Public Library. I did this last Summer as well and it was a great success with about 50 kids and adults showing up. I had a lot of help last year from toolmkr and Ekidokai.

This year I thought I'd turn the presentation into a geoevent in hopes that more local cachers will turn out to help. I thought that it would be fun to have numerous stations going on at once. At one station veteran cachers could help kids make their own caches. At another station, a cacher with a laptop could walk kids (accompanied by a parent) through the process of creating their own basic membership account with the geoevent being the new cacher's first smiley. A third station could have a demonstration of various gpsr's as well as smartphone caching apps. For those ready to find actual caches, kids and cachers could go out in small groups to find the Peirce Memorial cache located just outside the Children's Room as well as the Missouri State Nickname cache just around the corner. If anyone has any suggestions for other things we could do, I'm all ears.

Since the presentation will begin at 11:00 am, the geoevent will begin at 10:00 am so we can organize ourselves as to who's doing what. I hope to get the use of the same meeting room KBTIAM used for his Maker's Madness geoevent. It should end around 1:00 pm
