Geocache Description:

The cache site is at on old ski hill that provides an excellent vista of the entire Sudbury Basin.

We suggest to drive in and park at:

N 46 deg 42.712
W 081 deg 07.297

[Aside]
But the latter part of this road is quite rough, and may be flooded in the spring. As an alternative we suggest to park a little bit further out and hike in (an extra 2.1km hike). This alternative parking spot is at:

N 46 deg 42.271
W 081 deg 05.836
[end Aside]

The cache is hidden in a small, plastic black barrel-like container and has about a dozen goodies in it. Elevation change from parking spot to cache site is approximately 350 ft. Hike should take about 1/2 hour.

I spy....
Since the cache site is such a nice vista point, we're suggesting a list of things to spot on the horizon. (These are included in the cache as well). Try to pick out the following:

  • Falconbridge Smoke Stacks
  • Coniston Smoke Stacks
  • Val Caron Water Tower
  • Head Frame at Frood/Stobie Mine
  • Super Stack
  • Water Tower in Azilda
  • Water Tower in Chelmsford
  • Catholic Church in Chelmsford
  • Water Tower in Dowling
Binoculars might be a nice idea.

We also suggest that if you come out this way, you might want to check out the cache at Nelson Lake as well. You can find it at:

One final note: The cache will be difficult to locate under snowcover, so it's not really winter-friendly.

Have fun, enjoy the view and happy caching!

NOTE FROM OWNER: Circumstances have made it that we haven't been able to get to our own cache for several years and we are now residents of Florida. If you can help keep this cache "healthy" in any way needed, it would be appreciated. My son, who was 12 when this cache was planted and one of the original "Balez Boys" is now confined to a wheelchair and may never get a chance to see this view again. Enjoy the view for him. Thanks
