PONTARDAWE TRAIN STATION
I have been curious about the precise location of the former Pontardawe Station since I first moved to this area - nobody was able to tell me exactly where it was, until recently.
From the view waypoint provided stand and look due South West, you will see the bypass snake down the valley - this bypass was built on top of the bed of the former Swansea Vale Railway. The station would have been in front of you.
The supermarket to the right and just beyond the station is built on a site called Gwyn's Drift.
Passenger services to Brynaman ceased in the 1950s. The last trains to use the Swansea Vale Railway were freight trains, and even those ceased as long as fifty years ago in 1964. My research on-line has unearthed a photo of a Steam Special, that is dated 1965!
THE CACHE
Initially the cache is a 1L clip lock container with log book and some small swaps.
