Anchor from HMNZS Otago
From time to time we travel this route between Tauranga and Auckland, sometimes returning the same day. We have got into the habit of stopping to find a cache or two as a good excuse to take a break from driving, and decided to place a few ourselves.
There is plenty of parking available in the area and it's a popular place for motorhomers to stay overnight. Please take care with young children as there is water nearby. The anchor and handrail stanchions near GZ are from the HMNZS Otago, on loan from the Historical Maritime Park at Paeroa. The site also features a plaque acknowledging the Waihou River drainage scheme.
UPDATED FEBRUARY 2017: You are looking for a small screwtop container with a waterproof log book; please bring your own pen. There is room for small swaps and TB's. Please be stealthy and make sure you leave the cache well-hidden, with a rock to anchor it in place. This cache contains one of the clues you will need to locate the T2A-R: Tauranga Bonus cache.
FIRST TO FIND: funkymunkyzone, slieschke & mike-miss. Congratulations!
