Geocache Description:

PRETORIA GeoArt Series

Welcome to PRETORIA!

The Pretoria geocaching community is very proud to present PRETORIA, the largest GeoArt series to date in South Africa.

Aside from its rich cultural history, Pretoria is also home to an extremely active geocaching community. The Pretoria geocachers are a very social bunch and meet at least once every month to share stories, swap experiences and trackables and enjoy each other's company. During one of our get-togethers, the idea of putting our beautiful city well and truly on the geocaching map was born. It started off as a small idea but we soon realised that it would be a huge undertaking. When the call for interested parties went out, the local community responded true to spirited Pretoria form and soon all 85 caches were allocated to 21 different teams. The PRETORIA GeoArt community project commenced in January 2014 and was completed six months later in June 2014.

We hope you will enjoy exploring our beautiful city of PRETORIA.

-------------------------------------

The Borg are a collection of species that have been turned into cybernetic organisms functioning as drones of the Collective, or the hive. A pseudo-race, the Borg force other species into their collective and connect them to "the hive mind". This act is called assimilation and entails injections of microscopic machines called nanoprobes. The Borg manifest as cybernetically enhanced humanoid drones of multiple species, organized as an interconnected collective, the decisions of which are made by a hive mind linked by subspace radio.

The Borg inhabit a vast region of space in the Delta Quadrant of the galaxy, possessing thousands of vessels. They operate toward the fulfilment of one purpose: to "add the biological and technological distinctiveness of other species to their own... in pursuit of perfection". The Borg's ultimate goal is "achieving perfection" and the concept of perfection is the unifying idea at the core of the Borg.

Since the Borg began spreading out across the Delta Quadrant, they have encountered and assimilated members from over 10,000 civilisations. In nearly all their encounters, they exhibit no desire for negotiation or reason, only assimilation. The pursuit of an unemotional, mechanical perfection is the Borg's only motivation. They repeatedly state that "Resistance is futile".

You are Agent O07 - the last remaining M.U.G. (Member of United Geocachers) on Earth. The Borg have invaded the planet Earth and are on the verge of achieving final victory. You have played a crucial role in the M.U.G. Resistance and have fought many battles against the Borg. You have earned the respect of your fellow M.U.G.s and worked your way up to achieve the rank of General; which technically makes you an U.G.L.Y. (Urban General and Leader of Yodellers) M.U.G..

Almost all of Earth's population has been assimilated by the Borg and the few remaining human survivors will not last much longer. But you, U.G.L.Y. M.U.G., never gave up hope. Even though your fellow M.U.G.s were dropping like flies around you, you persevered and developed a specific yodelling technique which resonates at the precise frequency that blocks all Borg subspace radio transmissions. You, Agent O07, are now humankind's last hope.

You received a final encrypted transmission from M.U.G. H.Q. in what was formerly known as Pretoria before it fell. Just before they were assimilated by the Borg, the M.U.G. scientists managed to determine the exact location at which your yodelling must take place in order for it to be completely effective. If you do not find the specific coordinates, not all of the Borg will be rendered incapacitated. The scientists could not risk such sensitive information falling into Borg hands so they hid an I.E.D. (Important Encryption Device) containing the data somewhere in Pretoria. The location of the I.E.D. is in this transmission.

You B.E.A.U.T.Y. (Best Ever And Unusually Talented Yodeller) must make your way to Pretoria as quickly as possible and find the I.E.D.. Use the I.E.D. to discover the coordinates and then go there immediately and Y.E.L.L. (Yodel Emitting Loud Limiter)!

You are the only person left who can show the Borg that resistance is not indeed futile. May you live long and prosper, Agent O07.
