This cache is hidden a short walk from the nearby car park on Hay Tor Down. This spot has been chosen because on a clear day, the views are fantastic towards Bovey Tracey in the valley, Haldon Hill towards the North East and the coast at Teignmouth just beyond Newton Abbot to the East South East.
The area is often populated with grazing moor ponies or cattle.
The nearby car park is one of my favourite resting places to stop and admire the view after the arduous cycle from Bovey up the hill.
The cache is easily found a short distance up the lower of the two grassy tracks leading from the car park, although if you try to make your way here directly from the nearby Hay Tor Down series - you will find very prickly gorse and a steep hill making it much more difficult!
From the cache site, there are many pleasant walks to be taken over Hay Tor down including a short walk of about 1.5 miles around the hillside and taking in views of Hay Tor from the back. To follow this continue up the path, turn left just before the first cairn, then keep left on the grassy tracks. The weather on Dartmoor can change suddenly and unexpectedly. Please ensure that you have the correct clothing and map & compass even in this busy location. Do not rely solely on your GPS.
Cache placed with the kind permission of the Dartmoor National Park Authority and in accordance with their geocaching guidelines.
