Geocache Description:

This cache is located along the Peace River Trail.  It is accessable by horse, foot or ATV.  Please ensure you have adequate food and water with you.

When the sawmill at Fawcett Lake started operations in 1942 they used the lake to move the logs. They would fall them in the winter and drag them on the ice and enclose them with a long boom. When the ice cleared in the summer they were formed into smaller rafts and towed to the mill by a small tug boat. Her name was ‘Edith’ and she was powered by a diesel engine from a TD9 cat. At the mill the logs were passed up a jack ladder and cut into log lengths before passing into the mill proper. The most embarrassing of the tows happened to Duncan Roberts and George Roe. They hooked onto a tow of logs at 9:00 pm at the east end of the lake and started their tow towards the west end. Out came the crib board and the cards. When the midnight dinner hour came they went to cut their tow loose to go back for dinner and they found they hadn't untied from shore. Ooops!
