Many of the original homesteaders came to this area because their original homes were suffering the effects of the dirty thirties.
One family traded barbed wire for potatoes and carrots. The trade was not amazing but the fact that someone had been able to grow enough for their family and have extra to trade from their gardens was.
One day a man, who had just come from Southern Alberta, had gone fishing. He caught two big jacks and skidded them partway. He was too tired to carry on so he went home and asked a bachelor who sometimes stayed with them to take a rope and the kids sleigh to bring them home. The family thought it was a big joke until the man returned. The two fish were longer that the sleigh.
