Geocache Description:

This cache is designed to give you a taste of muskeg.  You may park in the driveway of 537 Hwy 2a.  Walk south down the hill towards the lake on the east side of the highway.  Getting to the cache is easy from there - well sort of.  You will be able to see where you need to go.  This will be a rubber boot cache. This is being listed as moderate terrain but that varies depending on how wet it is.

Many years ago 537 Hwy 2A was known as “The Old Scott’s Place” as Old Lady Scott lived here, with or without a husband.  One of her early husbands just seemed to disappear.  No one knows for sure what happened to him.

Rumors have it that Sonny Willis found his clothes in a rat run* at the muskeg lake that this cache is hidden at.  Another old timer swore that he saw Mrs. Scott on a raft dumping something large, wrapped in a blanket, into the lake and suspected it was the husband.  Others say she burnt him on a brush pile.  Regardless, he disappeared.

For years the land was vacant.  When riding by on their bikes the local kids pedaled as fast as they could.  It was the theme of campfire stories intended to make your hair curl.   It was purchased by a local couple in 1996 who occupied it for the first time in about 25 years.

They report that other than the wood stove filling itself, dishes flying from the cupboard, and young kids seeing the old guy in the bathroom that nothing strange has happened.

* a rat run is a tunnel into the bank of a river or lake that the little guys go hide out in.
