Geocache Description:

This geocache will give you a bit of a leg stretch.  You will be near the Moose Portage Cemetery.  The ground is relatively even.  From here you should be able to see an old building in a field.  It is on private land so please don’t cross the fence line.  This was part of the filming of Silence of the North.

The 1981 film was based on the true story of Walter Reamer and his wife Olive as they struggle to create a home and raise a family in the Canadian Frontier in 1919.  Taken from the book of the same name and directed by Allen King, the movie starred Tom Skerritt, as her 1st husband, Walter Roemer who was killed, Gordon Pinsent, as her 2nd husband, John Frederickson, and Ellen Burstyn as Olive.  All 3 Actors and the Director were nominated for Genie Awards.  Neil Young, formerly of Crosby Stills & Nash performed the theme song, “Comes a Time”.

Originally a box office flop, it developed a cult following by a combination of the song winning an award and SelecTV using it in its evening line up 18 months later.

Some of the local residents had bit parts in the movie and it would have been quite exciting while it was going on.  You can view a clip from the movie on YouTube.
