Geocache Description:

A multicache which will take you on a short walk around the church. It is a micro hidden just outside the church grounds

The present church is of Norman foundation, but it may have been built on the site of an earlier Saxon church, as the Domesday Survey mentions 'Brocowardinge' had a resident priest, 8 villagers, 6 smallholders, 2 free men, a reeve, and 4 slaves.

It also had a mill, and woodland 1 league long and half a league wide, and it was held by 'Hugonis Lasne' (which apparently translates as "Hugh Donkey") for the King.

The Norman church was founded by the first Lord of Brockworth, Roger de Chandos, who announced in 1142 that his church of 'Brocwardin' had been dedicated by Symon, Bishop of Worcester. He also made provision for enlarging the churchyard "from my own demesne".
