This year we're joining forces with The Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance for their 2014 Lower Fox River Cleanup on the same day. Our 8th Annual Appleton CITO event will begin at the Telulah park pavilion at 9:00am Saturday morning. Around noon we'll regroup for potluck and geocaching related stuff. THEN, if you've registered with the FWWA which we would like everyone to do using the link below, you can choose continue your CITO day by heading up to DePere to join in the FWWA's River Celebration at Voyageur Park for the rest of the afternoon. When you arrive you will receive a FREE t-shirt for participating in the clean-up which you've already done and then enjoy music, kids activities and presentations about preserving our Fox River and reducing pollutants that end up in it. It's like getting credit for two... two... two CITO's in one!
Once you click the link, navigate through River Cleanup/Registration/Join Team and type in "Appleton Area CITOcachers" using Telulah as the group password. Then select "Appleton Area CITOcachers - Telulah Park" as your desired location and enter your number of participants. You'll be asked for some basic information including T-shirt size and whether you can make it to DePere after the clean-up. And that's it!
When you arrive at Telulah be sure to check in and fill out the waiver for clean-up (iuf you haven't doine so through the FWWA site) and then check the CITO map to see which CITO Zones still need personal. I will be looking for Zone leaders prior to the event, so PLEASE let me know if you can step into that role. Don't show up late, as the free coffee, juice, and donuts go pretty quickly.
New this year, RECYCLING DUMPSTERS!. Zone leaders will help me get the collected and sorted trash and recyclables to the proper places. A note on recycling: Please sort only the stuff that is easily recognizable and not too far deteriorated into recycle bags. When in doubt, trash it.
There is plenty of parking in the lot near the pavilion and it is handicapped accessible. The Appleton Parks Department has given us free use of the pavilion and access to the restrooms.
Base camp at Telulah Park will remain open for water and supplies. Potable water will be provided to take with you on the trail, but we will not be doing bottled water this year, so BYOC!(I will bring extras). We will have our annual "strangest trash" contest as well as some other giveaways and other sundry surprises. Anyone interested in donating items to the cause, feel free to PM me.
Those attending CITO Events on April 26th will earn a 2014 CITO Souvenir for their Geocaching profile.
What to bring:
- Gloves
- Walking stick, poking apparatus, "grabber". These devices work well for picking up trash.
- Shoes / boots that can get muddy
- A friend who wants to learn about geocaching, having fun, cleaning up parks, meeting new people, etc.
- A picnic lunch if you wish.
Don't forget to add this cache page to your watchlist to keep up to date on who's coming and any relevant notes that are posted.

A special thanks goes out to Tim McGuire and the Appleton Parks and Recreation Department for allowing us to return for our 8th year and use of the Park's pavilion and for your continued support of geocaching in Appleton. A huge thanks to Mariah Pace, Outreach Coordinator for the Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance who graciously welcomed us, making this partnership all about the goal of creating cleaner parks and cleaner waters in and along our Fox River!
