World Wide Flash Mobs XI - 2014 Event Series

All around the world Geocachers have coordinated a 15 minute meeting that will happen at the same time on this day to bring Geocachers together and introduce others (newbies) to the world of Geocachers. The event will last EXACTLY 15 minutes, not one second longer.

A flash mob is a term used to denote a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and sometimes seemingly pointless act for a brief time, then disperse, often for the purposes of entertainment and/or satire. The first flash mob was created in Manhattan May 2003, by Bill Wasik. The first World Wide Flash Mob (WWFM) event was the Worldwide Pillow Fight Day (or International Pillow Fight Day) that took place on March 22, 2008. Over 25 cities around the globe participated in the first "international flash mob", which was the world's largest flash mob to date. This Event is part of the Eleventh Annual World Wide Flash Mob Event (Hundreds of events all around the world will be coordinated to happen at the same time).

At 1PM Eastern people all over the world will assemble in pre arranged groups, do something meaningless and disperse into the distance!

Event Timeline

  • 12:45PM to 12:59PM - Participants: Mill about and mosey. Be nonchalant and casual. Look like a muggle. Don't look like a gathering waiting to happen. Mosey as realistically as you can. This is part of the fun. We will seem to appear out of no-where. Act like you don't know anyone.
  • 1:00PM - Host will walk to ground zero and hold phone in air, "looking for signal. This is the sign that event has started! Quickly merge at Ground Zero.
  • 1:00PM - 1:04PM - TBD, open for suggestions!
  • 1:05PM - 1:09PM - Group Photo with everyone!
  • 1:11PM - 1:13PM - Signing of the log book that we will have available, logging "Discovered" on the WWFM Event Coin that we will have present.
  • 1:14PM - 1:15PM - Find someone to cache with.
  • 1:15PM to ... - Promptly leave the area (and go Geocaching!)

*Stay away from Ground Zero (the exact meet location) until 12:59PM. Stay in your car or walk around, you need to act like you don't know anyone.

Pro-Tip for a Fun Experience

After the event is over, plan to meet up with other geocachers later to spend a fun day caching! If you haven't been in this area before, there are quite a few caches in the near vicinity and many more within a few mile radius. Have fun! We are sure there will be several muggles nearby who will wonder "What have I just seen? What has just happened?" (That's part of the fun of a Flash Mob!) If you aren't prompt you could miss it. If everything goes right we will have several people converging on one spot for a 15 minute geocaching event and then disappearing. This will be a lot of fun and maybe even raise a few muggle eyebrows.
