Thank you to Stair Estates, not only for this wonderful place but for giving Dumfries and Galloway Council Rangers permission to place this geocache at Castle Kennedy Gardens and providing some special Castle Kennedy goodies. If you are lucky enough to find a token in the cache pop into the Gardens and they will exchange it for something nice.
You will see geese here summer and winter, if you go into the gardens ask about the goose nesting on top of the castle! You don’t need binoculars to see the geese and other birds but if you have some it will make your geocaching experience even better, the gardens hire these out too. If you continue up the hill to the bus park you get a good view of the loch and often there are geese in the field.
Castle Kennedy Gardens are surrounded by 2 freshwater lochs, these are designated as SSSI’s for their breeding waders and wintering wildfowl. They contain an exciting variety of wildlife including a resident flock of greylag geese , herons, grebe, oystercatcher and even the occasional osprey and otter. One of the Wild Goose Chase geocaches. You will be geocaching at one of the best goose watching spots in Dumfries and Galloway. A short walk from the carpark you will be on a goose flyway between the White and the Black Lochs. A 35mm film canister cache, bring something very small with you to trade as I found space for a few very small trade items as well as a pencil and a log.
