From where the cache is hidden it’s hard to mistake this island was once under the sea, by looking down the road towards the east, you can see Petursey.
Petursey, i.e Peter’s Island, is a 275 m high mountain standing east of Solheimasandur. For all the geologists and general Icelandic landscape enthusiasts, you can see in the rock of the mountain how there the sea level was much higher than it is today.
This is not only just a geological land feature, in the 13th century an army of 200 men built their defensive fortress on top, making their temporary home along side the infamous elves who are also said to live there.
You can also explore the black sand beach (I recommend a trip to the plane cache if you’ve got an off road car) or the glacier behind there, and there is a great super jeep company called Arcanum nearby if you’re interested!
