This cache has been archived.

Glen Falcon Terrors: Checking whilst doing a socially distanced walk around a very very quiet town centre.

The cache has gone again, so just after it's 7th birthday it is time to archive.

Thanks to all previous finders.

Geocache Description:

"F" is for Finance Centre

F is for Finance Centre photo F_zpscc40653e.jpg

Nelson Street is an area of the town dominated by the Island’s Finance Industry. The bank building on the corner was originally built for Dumbell’s Bank, which collapsed in 1900 (the Bank not the building!)

Below Nelson Street is Victoria Street or Queen Victoria Street, as it was once known, originally built to link the landing pier with the developing upper parts of the town. In the late 1800s a cable tramway operated along the street into Prospect Hill and on into upper Douglas. I bet there are many finance workers returning from lunch with bags full of shopping who wish the tramway was still in operation!

On the corner of Athol Street you will find the headquarters of the Isle of Man Bank, which in 1865 was the first limited company to be incorporated on the Isle of Man. Further up the hill the Island’s Parliament, Tynwald, occupies a building built for the Bank of Mona, which closed in 1878.

Enough about the Finance Centre now it is time to “Bank” the cache! Please bring a pen/pencil and maybe some tweezers to extract the log.

Happy Caching!

Congratulations dreeder75 on another FTF!
