Por altura da Quaresma, existe um Grupo de Homens que se junta e parte de uma das Paróquias da ilha Branca para uma peregrinação, à volta da ilha da Graciosa, rezando por si e pelos outros.... Enfim, rezando por todo o Mundo.... Na realidade estes Ranchos de Romeiros, formados por Homend de Fé, "põem" toda a ilha ( e também várias outras ilhas) a rezar. Os Ranchos são constituídos por Homens de todas as idades, profissões e classes sociais, que se tratam por "Irmãos" e que agem entre eles como Irmãos de facto.
Nos meses antes da Romaria, estes grupos de Homens reunem-se várias vezes por semana, para preparar a sua Romaria.
A Romaria, na Graciosa, tem uma duração de dois dias (numa das semanas da Quaresma), caminhando os Romeiros todo o dia, rezando e cantando. A partida diária, antes do amanhecer, ocorre muito cedo (dependendo do dia), por volta das quatro/cinco da manhã e termina, muitas vezes, já noite escuro, por volta das dezoito/dezanove horas (ou mais tarde, quando necessário...).
Oração, penitência e partilha. Sem tempo, nem lugar!
Há 14 anos que a Graciosa também cumpre a sua romaria, à semelhança da tradição secular micaelense.
Foi no ano 2000 que o mestre António "Tabico" e o seu Rancho de Toronto implantaram as romarias na ilha branca. Na altura, juntaram-se apenas 3 graciosenses. A fé ou simplesmente a curiosidade foi aumentando o rancho que este ano atingiu a participação record de 56 irmãos romeiros.
Esta romaria tem apenas uma particularidade que a distingue das outras ilhas. Exige menor sacrifício, porque faz-se em 2 dias, dada a dimensão da ilha. Mas, não deixa de ter um grande significado mesmo para os que participam pela primeira vez.
Aquando dum convite feito por este grupo a um Luso-Canadiano residente na ilha Graciosa, convite que foi aceite com a condição de se vir fazer uma Romaria na Graciosa, nasciam assim os Romeiros na Ilha Graciosa. Durante muitos anos a organização das Romarias teve a ajuda do grupo canadiano, tendo depois passado a ter o apoio do pároco da freguesia do Guadalupe e da Luz, continuando assim a tradição. A Romaria na Graciosa, é normalmente composta por 40 a 50 elementos, sendo que a volta à ilha demora dois dias. As Romarias têm os apoios das entidades das freguesias por onde passam, seja no fornecimento de refeições ou no alojamento.
A XIV Romaria da Graciosa realizou-se nos dias 27 e 28 de março de modo a contar com o padre Dinis Silveira que estuda no Vaticano.
ERMIDA DE NOSSA SENHORA DA VITÓRIA
Sob a invocação de Nossa Senhora da Vitória, foi erguida em comemoração a uma vitória dos habitantes da ilha após terem conseguido a expulsão de piratas da Barbaria, que tinham desembarcado pelo Porto Afonso no dia 19 de maio de 1623 e iniciado o saque das localidades da ilha.
Segundo a tradição, o ataque custou a vida ao pirata líder do assalto, que terá ficado sepultado próximo à ermida. Um dos reféns levados para Argel foi o capitão Pedro Cunha Ávila que, depois de libertado, pediu esmola em Lisboa para adquirir a imagem da Senhora da Vitória. Com ela regressou à Graciosa e construiu a ermida com a ajuda do povo.
A festa de Nossa Senhora da Vitória foi uma das maiores romarias da Graciosa. Na terça-feira do Espírito Santo ninguém trabalhava e de toda ilha chegavam famílias a pé, de burro ou em carros de bois. Chegavam ainda de manhã e ouviam missa antes de abrirem os farnéis à sombra dos salgueiros.
Registe-se também o facto que também existem, desde há quase cinco séculos Ranchos de Romeiros em S. Miguel e desde há alguns anos, Ranchos de Romeiros na ilha Terceira. Também existem, em S. Miguel, Romarias, de um dia, cujo Rancho é constituído integralmente por Mulheres.
Existem: na ilha de S. Miguel, actualmente, mais de cinquenta Ranchos de Romeiros. Na Graciosa e na Terceira existe, de momento, sómente um rancho em cada ilha.
Os Romeiros propõem-se visitar, durante a sua Romaria, o maior número possível de Igrejas, Ermidas e Capelas, especialmente as dedicadas a Nossa Senhora.
Num Rancho de Romeiros várias "funções", nomeadamente:
- MESTRE - responsável pelo Rancho
- CONTRA-MESTRE - principal ajudante e substituto do Mestre
- GUIAS - são dois e têm por missão conduzir o rancho pelos caminhos e veredas
tradicionais, "impondo" o ritmo da caminhada evelando pelo cumprimento
dos horários
- PROCURADOR DAS ALMAS - romeiro que recebe e contabiliza os pedidos de orações
das pessoas que se dirigem ao Rancho
- LEMBRADOR DAS ALMAS - romeiro responsável pelas salvas, junto aos cemitérios e
outros lugares ou ocasiões relevantes
- CRUZADINHA - irmão mais novo (geralmente uma criança ou jovem), que vai à frente
do Rancho e que leva a Cruz com Cristo.
- DISPENSEIROS - irmãos responsáveis pela alimentação do Rancho e compra de
géneros e outros produtos, que possam ser necessários
Muitos ranchos, principalmente em S. Miguel, também têm irmãos que desempenham outras funções, como:
GUIA ESPÍRITUAL, TESOUREIRO e AJUDANTES.

Lenten pilgrimages of the island of Graciosa
At the time of Lent , there is a group of men who joins and part of one of the Parishes of White Island for a pilgrimage around the island of Graciosa , praying for yourself and others .... The Pilgrimage , Graciosa , lasts two days ( one of the weeks of Lent ) , the Pilgrims walking all day , praying and singing . Their day starting before dawn , occurs very early ( depending on the day ) , around four / five in the morning and ends often already dark night , around eighteen / nineteen hours ( or later if necessary . .. ) .
Prayer , penance and sharing . No time nor place!
For the last 14 years Graciosa has also fulfilled its pilgrimage , like the São Miguel secular tradition.
It was in 2000 that Antonio " A smoking " and his master Rancho Toronto implanted pilgrimages in the white island. At the time , only 3 frm Graciosa joined. Faith or simply curiosity was increasing the ranch and this year it reached a record participation of 56 pilgrims brothers .

CHAPEL OF OUR LADY OF VICTORY
