the Kennebec Messalonskee Trails (kmtrails) is a non profit corporation promoting the building and maintenance of trails in waterville, winslow, benton, fairfield, and oakland. they are multi- use; walking, running and bicycling in summer and cross country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. most of the paths are right off main roads with parking available. some more information can be found at this link: http://www.kmtrails.org.
for this cito, we’ll meet in the quarry road trail parking area at 9am, and split into groups of two or more. there is a main unimproved road and two bike trails, all leading to the ski area about a mile down the trails. we’ll cito the trails as personnel allows, find some caches if you haven’t cached here before, and walk back to the parking area. i would think that the round trip will be approximately an hour or so- for the purpose of an end time i’ll say 10:30am. the terrain is set at two for the length of the hike on the road- the med/ hard bike paths are harder than two stars. wheelchairs may be able to make it- only you know your equipment and skill level.
i will provide trash bags and disposal, as well as bottled water. you’ll need to provide your own snacks, bug spray and grabbers (whatever you call them… the tongs so you won’t have to bend over to pick up trash) after we cito you’re on your own to cache around town.
