Get hands on with some conservation work and learn more about our wildlife, environments and heritage skills.

Free prize draw for a Geocoin for those who wish to enter

You are warmly invited to Holton Lee for a picnic and CITO event. This has been organised for international CITO Weekend, so all who attend will get an official Groundspeak Souvenir

I have been to lots of other events, but have always wanted to organise and host my own event. I am only 10 years old, but I do have lots of ideas, so I was pleased when my parents supported me to organise and host this event myself. There will be fun and interesting activities for all ages and abilities.

Holton Lee is set in 350 acres, much of it SSSI with lots of wildlife and birds. Last year, our family arranged an event here where lots of people came along and we planted a wide variety of native species to encourage native wildlife.

I wanted to keep to the same idea, which will be concentrating on the conservation work side of CITO Events.

We are always learning lots at school about looking after our environment, so I am really looking forward to this family fun CITO where there will be the chance to get your hands dirty and learn more about our wildlife, environments and heritage skills.

Where is the event?
Holton Lee, near Wareham, at the above coordinates.
When?
On International CITO Day - Sunday 27th April 2014 1pm / 1:30 pm - 4:30pm
Meeting Place
At the picnic area, which can be seen from the car park - look out for the flag.

When you arrive
Please observe the strict speed limit to protect the Wildlife roaming.
Please ensure you sign in with us upon arrival with the number of adults and children that are in each caching name for Health & Safety.

1pm - 1:30pm Bring and enjoy your own picnic
We will have an area set aside for us to enjoy a picnic and catch up before the event starts with an indoor area on standby should we need it.

1:30pm - 4:30pm CITO Event

We will be helping at Holton Lee. There will be lots going on including a variety of fun activities: Willow Weaving, Cob Making and some conservation work in Cachers Corner.

We will be getting our hands dirty with a cob-making workshop. This will involve mixing clay, straw and gravel to make a cob wall, which will become a feature in their wildlife demonstration area: Cachers Corner. Cob walls make a good habitat for burrowing solitary wasps and bees, basking sites etc.

Those who attend will also have the opportunity to make their own small cob work to take away with them free of charge. There will be some activities with a minimal fee.

What you need and facilities
Please bring your own gloves, if you do not want to get your hands dirty.

An Apron if you want to protect your clothes whilst making the cob blocks - you may get dirty!

There are hand washing facilities and disabled accessible toilets available on the site.
You will hopefully need to bring sun cream and a sun hat too!

Disabled Access
Good terrain Mobility Scooters will be suitable around most of the site; the paths have had many improvements, including a newly developed wheelchair accessible path through the woods which take you by 10 caches.

Trampers - All terrain Mobility Scooters, are available to hire at Holton Lee, please make your own arrangements in advance with them directly if you would like to hire one.
You can contact Holton Lee directly via their website: http://www.holtonlee.co.uk/home

You are welcome to turn up before and stay on after the event at Holton Lee to enjoy exploring the surroundings, and if you have not done so already, enjoy finding some of the 20 existing caches, which takes you through the beautiful grounds with the opportunity to see lots of wildlife.

If you require any further information, please contact me or either of my parents: Cache on Wheels or Bull Family.

I look forward to seeing you there

Geo Oly, 10 years old.
