Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the larger Santa Fe Trail GeoTour: santafetrail.org/geocaching

This cache is located in a small park area with a replica of an old well.  The cache is a very short walk from street-side parking.  Look for a screw-top canister hidden in foliage that is clearly identified with the dark green geocaching label. The Passport Activity code word is on the inside of the lid.

Be sure to visit www.santafetrail.org/geocaching to learn about the PASSPORT ACTIVITY to accompany this Geo Tour. The Palmyra Well is within present-day Baldwin City, Kansas, to the east of the high school. The community of Palmyra grew along the Santa Fe Trail in the 1850s, and the well provided water for trail travelers and their livestock. The town site of Palmyra has long since been absorbed into Baldwin City, but its presence on the Santa Fe Trail has been commemorated with markers nearby, and the well is identified today as the Palmyra Well, although it was historically known as the Santa Fe well. One mile to the northwest is Santa Fe Trail Park, which contains interpretive markers; and just beyond that park are stretches of county roads that lie on the original trail.
Containers on the Santa Fe National Historic Trail Geo Tour are military ammunition canisters, screw-top canisters, or Brochure-Holder boxes, with an identifying Santa Fe Trail Association yellow sticker on the top of the box, under the handle and the dark green geocaching.com ID is on the side of the boxes with the information that provides coordinates, who set the cache and who to contact for information. Each cache contains a logbook to sign, a variety of items that provide information about the Santa Fe Trail as well as swag items. If you are participating in the Passport activity, the code word is located on the inside of the box, on the top of the lid and is clearly identified as Code Word. Permission to set caches has been obtained. We ask that all cachers please respect all property at the sites where our caches are set.
