Geocache Description:

New Castle County Geo-Scavenger Hunt II

Saturday, May 10, 2014 (Rain or Shine)

Iron Hill Park (Entrance on Old Baltimore Pike)

* Meet & Register: 11:00 AM  @ Iron Hill Picnic Pavillion

* Geo-Scavenger Hunt Begins: Noon

* Geo-Hunt Concludes: 4PM @ Iron Hill Pavillion

This geo-scavenger hunt will bring you across all of New Castle County while you attempt to earn points. Prizes will be awarded to the teams with the 3 highest scores as calculated at 4 pm at the Iron Hill picnic pavillion.

The 3 ways to earn points are:

  1. DOCUMENT: take pictures of a specific place or thing
  2. COLLECT: collect a list of specific things
  3. ANSWER: give us answers to provided questions

All of this information will be handed out to registered teams, at noon, after registration is complete. Teams can consist of 1 person or many, as long as each member has a seat belt. Children are more than welcome to play as they make great geo-scavenger hunters. Each team will be provided a plaque with your team name. All teams will begin at the same time - noon. At this time you will receive a booklet of all the possibilities of things you need to take pictures of, collect items, and information that you need to gather along with their point value. You will not be able to do everything on the list. You will need to pick and choose what it is that you want to do. Each item will be given a point value. When you accomplish this one item you will receive its point value. Activities will earn you between 1 pt and 10 pts. You need to choose amongst the easy/difficult and the 1 pointers/10 pointers. The top 3 teams with the most points, at 4pm, will win.

What is required from you:

  1. Team name
  2. All team members must be able to fit in one vehicle and have a seatbelt
  3. DYC Rule 2014:  Each team can only be made of no more than 4 adults.
  4. One vehicle
  5. Device that takes pictures and that can store these pictures
  6. GPS
  7. Huge box to put your scavenger hunt finds in
  8. Food and drinks to keep you going for 4 hours

Things that are suggested:

  1. Internet Accessible device or Smart Phone to help with your searches

All teams need to return no later than 4pm. If there is a tie, the team that returned the earliest, will win. The geo-scavenger hunt will conclude at the Iron Hill Pavillion where the hunt started. When you return, you will meet with a judge and will have to prove: 1.) what pictures you have taken 2.) what items you have collected 3.) what questions you have answered. You need to prove everything in order to earn your points.  no proof = no points.

We will have cake and punch at the end of the hunt for all participants as we celebrate at the Iron Hill Pavillion.cheeky

We have 3 rules:

  1. Always obey traffic laws.  There are no extra points for traffic tickets!
  2. Be responsible and be safe.  We are not responsible for any injuries or mishaps.
  3. Have fun.

There will be NEW caches published the day of the event and they will be worth points as well. Coords will be handed out at noon. Each team is responsible for their own actions. Be sure to be respectful of the environment at all times. You do not have to participate in the scavenger hunt to attend this event. Everyone is invited to join in the fun at Iron Hill.

This Geo-Scavenger Hunt was inspired by the EPAC gang who ran the Chester County Scavenger Hunt.  We had such a blast that we wanted to bring something similar to Delaware.  Since everyone said they had such a great time last year, we thought we would do it again!
