A Usina Hidrelétrica de Itaipu é uma usina hidrelétrica binacional localizada no Rio Paraná, na fronteira entre o Brasil e o Paraguai. Construída por ambos os países no período de 1975 a 1982, Itaipu é, hoje, a primeira maior usina geradora de energia do mundo. O nome Itaipu foi tirada de uma ilha que existia perto do local de construção. No idioma tupi-guarani, o termo significa "pedra na qual a água faz barulho", através da junção dos termos itá (pedra), 'y (água) e pu(barulho).

This cache is located near the parking lot at left side of Itaipu Binacional.
The Itaipu Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the Paraná River located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay. The name "Itaipu" was taken from an isle that existed near the construction site. In the Guaraní language, Itaipu means "the sounding stone”.
