Geocache Description:

wavendon

The Church
St Mary's Church in Wavendon is one of three active churches within the Walton Churches Partnership in South-East Milton Keynes.

Much of the church building dates from the 13th century with the West Tower having been added in the 15th century. The church was extensively refurbished and extended in the mid-nineteenth century. Some of the 15th century glass survives but the majority of the current windows are Victorian.

The church contains a couple of wonderful historic items inside. The pulpit was carved by Grinling Gibbons, a master woodcarver with royal patronage, in the 17th century. It was moved to Wavendon from St. Dunstan's-in-the-West in London, which was rebuilt in 1831 when Fleet Street was widened. The brass candlesticks on the altar were brought to Wavendon from Ypres Cathedral just after the First World War.

The Cache
At the given coordinates you will be standing at the entrance gate on the main road. Locate the gravestone to the right side which is a memorial to John, the son of John and Susannah. He died in July 1835 aged 32 years.
Convert each letter of his surname into digits using the usual A=1 thru Z=26. Write all the digits in a row and call this ABCDEFGHJK. Now calculate:
WW = (E-F)/J
XXX = (G*((D*E*J*K)+B))
YY = (B*D*H*J)
ZZZ = ((F+G)*(H+K)*C) - (B*C*D) - E + F

The cache can be found at N 52 WW.XXX W 000 YY.ZZZ

You are looking for a 15ml sample tube (previously unused). There is no room for small swaps or trackables.

The Rules
There is no path on the church side of the main road, and it is surprisingly busy, so please take care gathering the information and keep an eye on children and dogs. If the church gates are open please go through them to locate the necessary information.

The area of the church is quite muggly and at certain times of day there will be a lot of pedestrian traffic and parked cars by the roadside. Please don't try to park outside the church at these busy times and as ever be considerate of your surroundings. The street is wider and less congested both to the east and the west of the church and you should find it easier to park there.

The final cache is, however, in a much quieter and less overlooked location, so you should find it comparatively peaceful.
