Welcome Geocachers to the eleventh World Wide Flash Mob event!
Started in 2007 by a couple of cachers in California, the first WWFM was attended by a thousand folks at 20 events in two countries. for three years cachers hosted events twice a year- since 2010 it has been a single date each year. if you attended a WWFM last year you were part of 25,125 cachers flashing in 42 countries at 558 events…..at the same time.
This year the organizers have not suggested a theme for the individual events, so during the wingding a few weeks ago i had a conversation with a local cacher and we came up with the theme for this years’ WWFM in Waterville:
BATHROBE AND SLIPPERS!
bunny jammies are allowed only if you’re wearing the ears as well. that ought to cause the neighbors to look twice… and maybe we’ll clear out the birthday parties from the pavillion. by then, though, we’ll be gone.
Same location as last year- the North Street Playground pavilion in Waterville, Maine, diagonally across from the Maine General Medical Center. The start time is 1:00pm and we’re done at 1:15pm.
As we did last year, we'll be as inconspicuous as possible milling around before the event. Plenty of parking, pavilions for your picnic lunch, and of course the playground for the kids. The soccer fields, if not already occupied, would be fine for ball or frisbee games. There is a series of caches behind the playground, and some more caches close by in the Quarry Road Recreational Area and Colby College.
At exactly 1pm, please bring a index card with your caching name legibly written on it and we'll form up at the pavilion. Put your card in the bucket, quickly trade swag and/ or tb's, and have a few minutes to chat. Did I mention your own index card? With your caching name printed legibly? We’ll have a bite to eat, and at about five past, we'll form up for a group picture, and then at 10 past I'll pull a card for a WWFM XI coin. at 1:15 we'll disperse.
