The present building was erected in 1874 by John Lessels, to replace a much earlier church of 1643. Bell of 1773 still in use. Major restoration in 2002. Two high circular windows in the north and south transepts and some interesting stained glass. Oak for the panelling in the porch is from a tree planted at Abbotsford by Sir Walter Scott. First and Second World War Memorials. The churchyard dates back to the first church and contains table-stone graves of the 18th century and several other stones of interest, including a Covenanter's grave and one, near the gate, to the many men who died in the construction of the Talla reservoir.
The cache itself is a 35mm film canister hidden on the edge of the Car Park. A writing implement will be required for this cache. Please note that the entrance to the car park is quite narrow and may not be suitable for larger vehicles including motorhomes/caravans, you may be able to park at the large clearing at the crossroads in Tweedsmuir for a short time. The cache is not hidden within the graveyard or within any of the drystone walls in the vicinity of GZ, it is on the wall held together with concrete! Please ensure the cache is covered back up properly once you have done and please try and have some stealth. Most of all. Enjoy
Congrats to 6669 for the FTF!
