Geocache Description:

This is NOT a 'challenge' cache that requires you to find any specific 'qualifying' caches - but rather a traditional cache representing a personal challenge of my own, to find as many 'library' caches as possible.

I have thoroughly enjoyed finding caches that have been placed inside of libraries, and they seem to be becoming quite popular. At the time of placing this cache, I have found 9 of this type of hide. For interest sake, see my related Bookmark list of 'library' caches around Ontario. Every one of these has accumulated Favourite points and, in fact, one of them is even in the top 20 all-time favourites in Ontario.

The Dewey Decimal Classification System is a method of categorizing books in a library by subject matter. It is a numerical system using groupings of ten — i.e. there are ten major classes, each of which has ten divisions, each of which has ten sections — and books are placed on the shelf in numerical order. The system was created by Melvil Dewey in 1876. Before it was developed, there was no standard of organizing library books, and most systems in use were quite arbitrary and inefficient. The call numbers in the Dewey Decimal system provide increasingly specific information about the book when read from left to right. There are three numerals in each, followed by a decimal point, which may be followed by more numerals to more specifically categorize the book. The second line of the call number consists of the first few letters of the author's name, which may be used to alphabetize books with the same numerical classification.

Although this cache is not in a library, it is in itself a library. When placed, it contained several adult fiction books, along with some young adult fiction and children's books in a large tupperware container. Please feel free to either borrow, exchange or donate books to the collection, and be sure they are in ziplock bags for their protection from the elements.
