Veronica Mars has four six-sided dice. Each side of each die has a letter on it, and each letter appears only once. When rolling the dice, Veronica created the following words, many of which are geocaching terms:
BATH |
COPY |
FIDO |
JINX |
PARK |
TREK |
BOLT |
DNFS |
FIND |
JUMP |
SENT |
WARP |
CITO |
DOGS |
HUGE |
LOGS |
TIME |
ZERO |
To solve the mystery, determine all six letters found on each die.
Write the letters (1) in alphabetical order for each die and (2) list the four dies alphabetically by first letter. (Remember that the supplied lower-case letters a, b, c and d are for later reference only, and are not starter letters.) The letters “q” and “v” are not used.
Now convert from decimal degrees to the standardized GPS format used above. One site to accomplish this is here.
The Great Detectives cache series has its own webpage; it may be found by clicking on "Related Web Page," above.
This puzzle is an original example of a relatively rare deductive logic puzzle known as "Cast-a-Word," "Building Blocks" or "Dicey Words." For those who like this sort of thing but haven't encountered one before, much of the fun will be in figuring out how to figure it out. There is some information online should you want it. Most published versions of these puzzles feature 11 or 12 words; Veronica is supplying you with 18 words to make it much easier.
