It's hard to say which summit of Mt Murray is the highest. At times it seems the east summit and others the west. The GPS said there was not much in it, but from a distance our walking party agreed it was probably the rock east summit, where this cache is hidden.

One of the many peaks crossed by the A.C.T border, Mt Murray is the third highest peak in our territory topping out at 1,845 metres. Just below Mt Gingera at 1,857 metres and just above Mt Kelly at 1,832 metres.

Murray's gap and Mt Bimberi lie to the north so all of the routes mentioned in mtbikeroz's The top ACT - Bimberi Wilderness apply to Mt. Murray, except that there is no footpad to guide you to the summit. The north face of Mt. Murray is quite steep so be sure you are aware of what you are in for before tackling that route.

If you'd prefer a more picturesque and less steep route, then follow the route we took in laying the cache. You'll pick up a bonus cache on the way and enjoy a different part of the park than you may have already experienced climbing Mt. Bimberi.

Drive your geomobile to the parking coordinates via Boboyan, Yaouk and Kennedy roads. Drive through the several gates, ignoring the old crown land sign on the final gate and stop short of the "Snowgums" property to respect their privacy.

Next, head up Lone Pine Trail for 4.5 km until you reach the reference point and head NNW across the saddle to pick up the border. Once you reach the Bonus Surprise cache you have a choice: You can continue to follow the border until you round the top of Jack's Creek near the west summit, or you can take a more direct line through the lovely and open (but marshy and soft) Jack's Creek. We went up the creek and down the border and as beautiful as the creek is, it is hard work.

Batgirl and mtbikeroz accompanied me on this cache laying expedition and will log their finds after the FTF. Will it be you?
