SideTracked - Belyaevo Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

-CJ-: I do not have any physical and emotional resources to maintain the cache during this terrible wartime. Neither I can take responsibility to invite anyone to safely search for geocaches here in Russia. I'm sorry. Thank you all dear geocachers who enjoyed the cache. Will hopefully get back to the game some day.

Geocache Description:

The Moscow metro "Belyaevo" station was opened in 1974. The neighbouring "Kaluzhskaya" station (one closer to the city centre) performed as a depot; at "Belyaevo" all trains turned back. Thus, "Belyaevo" station served as a terminus for 13 years (until 1987).

The station got its name from the nearby village Belyaevo. One can see "Belyaevo-Dalnyee" ("Far Belyaevo") on some old maps - this was to distinguish between "this" Belyaevo and another Belyaevo at Kashirskoye highway. The area was included in the bounds of the city in 1960 and was soon turned into a huge building area together with the neighbouring village (to the west) Bogorodskoye. Since the planning was the same for two former country neighbourhoods, these historically different areas were united in one name "Belyaevo-Bogorodskoye" which can be seen on Moscow city maps of the Soviet period.

"Belyaevo" is not a deep station (12 metres). This is the only Moscow metro station where the date of construction was so much highlighted by the elements of interior.

The map fragment that I attached to the "SideTracked - Kaluzhskaya" cache listing includes Belyaevo. This is really a unique map: it shows "Kaluzhskaya" already but does not show "Belyaevo" (mind that both stations were constructed in the same year).

(For description in English look above)
