Geocache Description:

Revisit Crombie's Treasures

Crombie Rangers invite you to join them for a family friendly "treasure hunt" round Crombie Country Park, followed by a barbecue. Your chance to grab those caches you've missed previously, or to find out what geocaching is all about. Meeting point is the garden marquee behind the Visitor Centre. We expect the event to run from 10am - 4pm

The marquee is about 10 minutes walk from the car park where parking charges apply. For more information about the park visit: Crombie Park

This is an event for teams of up to five (but we're flexible). Kicking off around 10am, with teams setting off at approximately 5 minute intervals from around 11am. There will be two routes, a short route suitable for those with young children or those wanting a shorter distance to walk, and a longer route of two miles round the loch. For both routes you will be given a mixture of different types of tasks, challenges and a few surprises thrown in for good measure. A bit like a Hunt and Munch, but leaving your car in the car park.

After the barbecue, prizes will be awarded to the teams scoring the most points, or giving everyone else the most laughs. To help with this it would be appreciated if every team could donate a prize (up to £8 - £10 per team).

Starting times will be allocated nearer the event, allowing those from further away more time to get here. New caches will also be placed for the event.

If you don't have a complete team, but wish to attend please log your "will attend" so that others can see that you are looking for team-mates.

Update 6/5/14

Final plans are being put together for this Sunday’s event. This will be a family friendly fun day out in beautiful surroundings. As previously mentioned there will be a choice of two scavenger hunts with a few extras thrown in. The short route is 1.3 miles and the longer route is 2.6 miles. Both are on flat terrain, but it may be a bit muddy in a few places, so choose your footwear wisely.

This is an open event and we hope that people new to Geocaching, or people who just want to join in a fun day out in the park will come along and enjoy it - please do not worry if you are confused by any of the information here – come along we will talk you through things – it’s all really easy!

To take part, all you need to bring is your GPS, something to take photos with and a sense of humour. The phone signal isn’t always great so it would be advantageous if at least one person in your team had a GPS. If you don’t have a GPS, we will try to match you up with someone who does.

The Scavenger hunt requires you to follow a route round the park looking for particular items, carrying out tasks and looking out for photo opportunities along the way. A camera of some sort is essential. Your phone will do fine. All props will be supplied.

Teams will set out from the marquee at five minute intervals, starting at 11am. No need to book your starting time, just turn up and we’ll set you off asap. Teams will have around 2 hours to visit waypoints and complete tasks. We hope to have all teams set off by 12.30, but if anyone wants earlier or later times, please log it on this page or email Karenfaeangus via her profile page or Karen.Munro@hotmail.co.uk.

There are new caches in the park to find, including a puzzle, a multi, a podcache and some traditionals. There will also be some drive bys published on Saturday evening, along with some new caches in Angus and Dundee areas. Paper copies of the podcache will be available on the day.

There will also be a Lotto for little ones and caching lotto game as well as the barbecue. Donations to cover the cost of the barbecue and marquee hire will be greatly appreciated. This will help to ensure that we can continue holding events both at Crombie and elsewhere. As always, donations of baking will be gratefully received, as will small items for team prizes.

To help us with numbers for catering, please log your “will attend” or email Crombieranger if you haven’t already done so.

Many thanks, and look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
