Geocache Description:

Having held Britain's most westerly event in '07, the UK's most southerly meet in '08, most northerly event in '09, Britain's most southerly meet in '10 and most easterly in '11 - amongst others*! - it seemed time to broaden my horizons...

EN: If anyone can help me improve the Norwegian translation at the bottom of the page, that would be appreciated!

Where: the northern tip of Knivskjelodden, mainland Europe’s northernmost point, if you accept the tunnel makes the island of Mayeroya a part of the mainland. (Kinnarodden on the Nordkinn peninsula is the northenmost point on the mainland if you don't). I know of a more northerly meet - GC2Z130 How far will you go for a cache? - but the Svalbard islands are beyond my budget at the moment..!

When: 1-2pm, July 6th 2014. I suggest we gather at 10.30am at the parking place on the E69, to the south-east (parking waypoint) and follow the path in from there. (Thank you to rtl for the suggesting to add a time to meet at parking.)

Who: Brave cachers from far and wide, I hope. However, it is a long walk and the conditions may not be kind, so please think twice about bringing young children on this adventure.

Why: Because I've never been inside the arctic circle before, seen the midnight sun (got close in Shetland in 2009!) or cached in Norway (or Finland and Sweden), and when will I have a better chance to visit some of the most remote and 'extreme' locations in Europe again?

How: This is not an easy location to reach - hence the D/T ratings! - so some forward planning would be wise. I'm flying to Tromso from London, hiring a car there and working my way here over several days. I've done long walks in the Scottish Highlands and have good wet-weather kit and appropriate skills to get to this remarkable spot. There's a well-walked trail. From a near-by physical cache: "Marked hiking trail, 18 km round trip from Highway E69. We used 2.5 hours on the hike to Knivskjellodden. Excellent view towards the North Cape Plateau wichs is about 1500 m south of Knivskjellodden. By walking the world’s northernmost hiking trail to Knivskjelodden, you can write your name in the hiking association’s minute book at Knivskjelodden, and buy a diploma at Nordkapp Camping as proof that you have visited Knivskjelodden and the year 2000 cairn."

What: An unusual cache meet to swap TBs and other travellers, and talk about caching, of course! New to caching or cache meets? You'll be made especially welcome.

Please note: As per Groundspeak's Ts&Cs, you accept all risks associated with attending this cache meet. The organiser cannot be held responsible for... Anything. Anything at all.

More info: Here is a thread about this meet on the GC.com UK/Ireland forum.

Nor:

Sør-øst for eventplassen.

Hvem: 6 juli 2014, kl. 13:00 - 14:00. Sør-øst for eventplassen.

Noe. Ingenting i det hele tatt.

EN: *My other extreme events include the highest cache meets in England, Wales (both in '09) and Scotland/Britain ('11), plus the mainland's most southerly ('12) and westerly ('13)
