When the Noldor first left Valinor to return to middle earth, one of the first places settled was Nevrast. Located on the coast of Beleriand, Turgon, High King of the Noldor ruled over this land. His capital was Vanyamar. After 100 years, Nevrast was abandoned as the elves moved to the secret kingdom of Gondolin.
To access this cache, park at the parking area which is just north of the bridge on highway 188. You will cross the highway and then follow the well marked trail. It is a steep climb, ascending 1100 feet in 2 miles. You will have views of Roosevelt Lake and Dam, Apache Lake, the Mazatzals, and the surrounding countryside. Expect a 4 mile roundtrip hike: alternately use two vehicles and park at the Mill Ridge TH and hike 6 miles downhill. The trail has significant loose rock and can be as hard to hike down as up.
