TGW14: Meet and Greet at the Last Post

History
In 1927 a Memorial monument was build at the Eastern exit of the city, where the Meningate used to be. The monument is to remember the nearly 55.000 British soldiers who were never identified or found in the Ypres Salient. This location was choosen because it was the access road to the front.
Since 1929 the Last Post is played every evening at 8.00 PM exactly to 'Never Forget'.
Timetable
From 10 AM we will be expecting you at the location of the Main event. You can come and get your material (roadbooks, coins), visit the geomarket, meet other cachers, eat and drink something...
You can also choose to go caching or plunge into the past and visit museums or locations that were of importance 100 years ago. Some ideas:
- Flanders Fields Museum, Market Square, Ieper
- Passchendaele Memorial Museum, Zonnebeke
- Hooge Crater private Museum, Zonnebeke
- Hill 60, British trenches, Zillebeke
- Bayernwald German trenches, Wijtschate
From 6 PM we will start with the Meet and Greet at the Ypres Kruidmagazijn. It's here that you will be able to sign the logbook. At 8 PM as climax of the day we will be attending the Last Post ceremony at the Meningate and, in name of the International Cachers Community, lay down a flower wreath. After that you can go back to the Main location in the Dreve.

Historiek
In 1927 werd een herdenkingsmonument gebouwd aan de Oostelijke uitgang van de stad, waar vroeger de Menenpoort zich bevond. Het monument is een aandenken aan de bijna 55.000 Britse soldaten die niet geidentificeerd of teruggevonden werden in de Ieperboog. De locatie werd gekozen omdat via deze weg naar het front gemarcheerd werd.
Sinds 1929 wordt iedere avond om 20u stipt de Last Post gespeeld om hun offer nooit te vergeten.
Dagindeling
Vanaf 10u staan we u op te wachten op de locatie van het hoofdevent. Je kunt je materiaal afhalen (roadbooks, coins), rond kijken op de geomarkt, andere cachers ontmoeten, iets eten en drinken...
Je kan naar keuze gaan cachen of je verder verdiepen in de gebeurtenissen die zich hier 100 jaar geleden afspeelden door een bezoek te brengen aan musea e.d. Enkele voorstellen:
- Flanders Fields Museum, Grote Markt, Ieper
- Passchendaele Memorial Museum, Zonnebeke
- Hooge Crater private Museum, Zonnebeke
- Hill 60, Britse loopgraven, Zillebeke
- Bayernwald, Duitse loopgraven, Wijtschate
Vanaf 18u verzamelen we dan aan het Iepers Kruidmagazijn voor de Meet and Greet. Hier zal je kunnen het logboek tekenen. Als apotheose van de dag wonen we om 20u de Last Post bij aan de Menenpoort waar, in naam van de Internationale Cachers Gemeenschap, een bloemenkrans zal neergelegd worden. Daarna kan je terug naar de hoofdlocatie in de Dreve.

Historique
En 1927 un monument fût bati à la sortie Est de la ville, ou jadis se trouvait la porte de Menin. Le monument est une commémoration aux presque 55.000 soldats Britanniques qui ne fûrent jamais identifier ou retrouver dans le Saillant d'Ypres. L'endroit est symbolique commme c'est par cette route que le front fût rejoint.
Depuis 1929 chaque soir à 20h pile le Last Post est joué pour ne jamais oublier leur sacrifice.
Horaire
Nous vous accueillerons à partir de 10h au point de rencontre du Mega Event. Vous pourrez venir prendre votre materiel (roadbook, coins), visiter le geo-marché, rencontrer d'autre géocacheurs, manger et boire...
Vous avez aussi le choix d'aller faire des caches ou vous plonger dans les évenements qui se sont dérouler ici il y à 100 ans en visitant des musées et autres. Quelques suggestions:

A partir de 18h nous nous rassemblerons à la Poudrière pour le Meet and Greet. C'est ici que vous pourrez signer le logbook. Comme apothéose de la journée nous participerons à la cérémonie du Last Post sous la Porte de Menin ou nous deposerons une couronne au nom de la Communauté Internationale de Géocacheurs. Puis vous pouvez revenir a la Drève, le point de rencontre du Mega.
