Geocache Description:

This is a fairly simple cache and dash that will take you to a disused Freight Depot. You seek a 35mm film cannister and if you have already retrived (GC3XM2P) you may have an idea for the style of hide - no special equiptment was used, just my trusty steed!

About SideTracked Caches

This cache belongs to the SideTracked series, but relates to a disused freight yard. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. Its a distraction for the weary traveller (in this instance non-rail!), but anyone else can go and find it too. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website

About Bevois Park Depot

Bevois Park Sign

Bevois Park Freight Depot was a British Railways freight depot and sidings which went out of use as a yard sometime in the 1990's.  For a while, the Blue Circle Cement Depot operated here. I have tried my best to research this online, but have had no joy - if anybody has any better information, please message us by clicking our name above and sending us a message!

The best I can do is say that there used to be a engine watering column here that serviced the famous strawberry steam freight traffic from the East - the next water column on the line for the strawberry freight was at Fareham!  There was talk in the late 2000's that this yard could re-open, but this was before a short lived scrap works, followed by a an aggregrate works opened up on site and between them they have buried the evidence that there was ever a depot here and have segregrated the line from the yard with old sleepers - at least they kept a theme!

Some historic pictures can be found here (thanks SteamyStu) 1982 1985 1984
