A short summary of the Quinta da Bemposta goes something like this: one of the loveliest houses, situated in one of the loveliest areas of one the loveliest towns of Portugal (if not Europe). The town in question is Sintra, a UNESCO world heritage site just some 40 minutes from Lisbon, replete with fairytale palaces, castles and manors. Lord Byron himself said in the early 19th century "I must just observe that the village of Cintra in Estremadura is the most beautiful in the world". There’s certainly something of the Alice in Wonderland feel to Sintra, and in this blessed area the Quinta da Bemposta lies in perfect harmony.
