 1914-1918

 1940-1945

LA COMMUNE DE JUMET RECONNAISSANTE

Monuments aux Morts are war memorials established to commemorate the losses of World War I. After the end of the 1914–1918 war there was a frenzy to build memorials to commemorate those who had been killed. Majority of these memorials was built between 1919 and 1925. They are known as monuments aux morts - literally monuments to the dead and what are known in the United Kingdom as war memorials.

War memorial in Jumet was first inaugurated on the 2nd of August 1925 to acknowledge the local victims of the great war. The inscription “1940-1945” was added at a later time. The bronze statue towering over the monument group is a representation of ‘the sower of peace’.
