Geocache Description:

SLO: Ob potoku sredi Zgornjih Gameljn pri Ljubljani stoji zanimiva hiša. Lesena, obdana z balkonom, rumenimi zidovi in zelenimi okni. Hiša zanimive arhitekture je edina ruska dača v Sloveniji.

ENG: By the stream in the middle of Zgornje Gameljne, just outside Ljubljana, stands a fascinating house. Wooden, with a balcony running all the way round it, it has yellow walls and green window frames. A house of curious architecture is the only Russian dacha in Slovenia.

ENG: There are not many villas in Slovenia that are cultural monuments or boast notable architectural features. But just outside Ljubljana, in Gameljne, there is a fascinating villa, which enjoys protected status as a unique cultural monument. Known as "the Russian dacha", it is the only monument of Russian architecture in our country, with the exception of the Russian chapel below the Vršič mountain pass.
The Russian dacha in Gameljne is special because it is built in the style of the country houses which the Russian upper classes used as holiday homes. The upper storey is of wood, and the carvings on the windows and balconies are an outstanding decorative feature. The windows still feature the original stained glass. A garden surrounds the house – at one time it featured a full kitchen garden on one side and an impressive park on the other. And right by the house is a stream where trouts once swam.
You can read more about its history (in Slovene language) here in Ruska dača skozi čas.
