Geocache Description:

This cache is located within Grays Town Park, Thurrock's oldest town park, which dates from the late 1890s.  The land was previously derelict, having being part of brick clay pits, and was extensively landscaped to form the first public leisure facility in the area.

Since its formation, the park has been in constant use by the local community and has recently benefitted from a Heritage Lottery Fund Grant to restore some of its historical Victorian layout and features.

This traditional cache is located in the south west corner of Grays Town Park, accessed via Bedford Road.  The cache has been placed as part of a Heritage Lottery Funded project to raise the profile of this historic public space. To the north of the cache you can find a Tulip Tree planted in 2012 by the Mayor of Thurrock to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
