Welcome to the plaza of the village of Tragadero. Tragadero is an annex within the District of Marco. It will be our base for exploring Lake Tragadero, also called the Chocon Wetland. There is a microcache hidden here, and a larger cache container is being kept inside the tienda of the Misari family. The woman who tends the shop, Gudelia, will give you the cache so you can sign the log and trade items. Be sure to thank Gudelia for keeping the cache box safe for us. But first—explore the wetland and see how many different types of birds you can observe. Afterward, come to this cache and log your comments.
Birdwatching is interesting and a great way to train your mind in the observation of detail. Here at the Chocon wetland, there are many species of birds. You might enjoy bringing a bird identification book. BINOCULARS are very highly recommended for this cache!
We recommend that you explore two different areas of the wetland to observe the birds that live here. One area is at the side of the road from Pachascucho to Tragadero, at S 11 45.407 W 075 32.984 (A stadium is across the road to the north.) During the dry season, this point will be close to the shallow end of the lake, where many of the species like to fish. It’s an especially a good observation point for the flamingos and Ibis because they can stand in the shallow water and watch for passing fish. During the rainy season, the waypoint given will be under water. Don’t worry, just come as close as makes sense.
The other area we recommend is the stretch from S 11 45.673 W 075 32.985 and going south to S 11 46.209 W 075 32.531 along the west side of the wetland. (If you come at the height of rainy season, these points may be under water, but just come as close as is feasible.) This is a good area for observation because you can get close to the vegetation in the center of this ring lake. Many of the birds nest within this grassy center of the wetland and cruise along this stretch of shoreline.
